What is a full-service retirement community?
A full-service retirement community provides you the privacy of your own residence, the companionship of community life, luxurious services and amenities, a full calendar of engaging activities and the freedom to live to your potential. A special benefit is the guarantee of on-site health services, including a wellness center, assisted living residences and health care services in private or semi-private rooms. This health care package frees you from worry about future long-term care and allows you to spend your time on the things most important to you – grandchildren, travel, hobbies, creative pursuits, computers, recreation and entertainment.

How does full-service retirement living differ from other senior living options like active adult or assisted living?
Active adult communities are geared for the youngest seniors, offering single-family homes or condominiums plus community amenities such as a pool, clubhouse, and perhaps a golf course. While the groundskeeping and general maintenance (lawn mowing, snow removal, etc.) are taken care of, residents are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of their own homes and driveways.
Full-service senior living communities in contrast, offer a comprehensive range of lifetime care and services (physician services, assisted living and skilled nursing) plus activities and entertainment all onsite and typically all under one contiguous roof. Although they remain active and independent, residents know they can age comfortably within the community and remain among friends even if their healthcare needs change along the way.
Assisted living is ideal for those who require a helping hand with activities of daily living or household tasks but do not need ‘round the clock medical care. Full-service retirement communities have assisted living or personal care services on-site as part of their care spectrum.

I’m interested. What is the next step?
To reserve an accommodation, you simply need to provide: (1) A deposit equal to 10% of the entrance fee for your chosen residence, and (2) A $250 processing fee. At this time you will also sign the Residence & Care Agreement, which provides detailed information about your living arrangements. Our move-in coordinator will then assist you with all of the details of your upcoming move to your new home.
If you should change your mind for any reason, be assured that your 10% deposit is fully refundable. The non-refundable $250 application fee is a minimal amount to pay to prepare for your future.

What are the costs?
You will pay a one-time entrance fee, based on the size of the residence and single or double occupancy. You may choose either of two entrance fee options (traditional or 90% refundable) to give you the freedom to develop a retirement plan that is financially beneficial to you and your family. The principal may be returned to you in accordance with the terms of the Residence and Care Agreement.
Along with the entrance fee, there will be a monthly service fee, which will cover a multitude of unique conveniences and services that would cost much more if you were to purchase them separately.

What happens if I outlive my resources?
As a Springpoint full service senior living community resident, you may be eligible for support from the Springpoint Senior Living Foundation. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of Springpoint and its efforts provide piece of mind to residents who have prudently spent their assets and signed a residence and care agreement in one of our full-service retirement communities. Residents who are approved for assistance will be cared for in the setting most appropriate to their needs, regardless of their financial standing. In its 90+ year history, Springpoint has never asked a resident to leave who has prudently spent their assets.

How can I be sure that Springpoint senior living communities are financially stable?
Springpoint Senior Living communities have repeatedly earned the highest vote of confidence from CARF-CCAC, a distinction held by only 15 percent of peer communities nationwide. The rigorous CARF-CCAC review process places a strong emphasis on financial health and long-range financial planning and projections.
You can also be reassured by Springpoint’s extraordinarily long and stable 90+ year history of senior housing success through skillful, forward-looking management.
The size and diversity of the Springpoint organization is another assurance of ongoing financial strength. With product lines that encompass full-service senior living, assisted living and affordable housing, Springpoint benefits from a broad and stable flow of revenue and assets.

What would happen to me if my community were no longer financially viable? Would another company take over? What would happen to all of my money?
Because of its strong financial profile, Springpoint considers it unlikely that any of its communities would suffer financial difficulties.
Within the senior care industry, the course of action under such circumstances has typically been for the troubled community to be acquired by a new provider. The new provider typically acquires the resident contracts and the entrance fee rights and obligations and continues to operate the community much as before.
You should also know that the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, which regulates continuing care retirement communities, has the authority to intervene on behalf of residents’ best interests in case a New Jersey continuing care retirement provider should file for bankruptcy or become insolvent.

What is the advantage of choosing a not-for-profit corporation?
Not-for-profit corporations do not pay dividends to shareholders nor do they pay federal or state income taxes. Profits are returned to the organization, typically resulting in better care as measured by staff-to-resident ratios, high-quality dining, and outstanding health care.
